A 30-day speaking program for iPhone

You know what you mean. It comes out long.

Say less. Mean more. Thirty days of practice, five minutes a day. You answer one question out loud, see your answer as a single line, and carry one change into tomorrow.

The speaking line

Your answer, as one line.

Speech is a line. A pause is the space in the line. Clarity is visible as room between ideas. Here is one person answering the same kind of question on three different days, on one shared axis.

Day 1
58 seconds

Fifteen seconds of speech before the first break. The point arrives at 50 seconds, after the explaining.

Day 7
52 seconds

Four clear gaps, about one second each. The point arrives at 30 seconds. Pace is about the same as Day 1.

Day 30
41 seconds

A shorter answer with even, deliberate gaps, and the point lands in the first six seconds.

0 s29 s58 s, one shared axis
SpeechA solid stroke. Its length is how long you spoke.
PauseA gap. Its width is the real length of the pause.
Main pointThe heavier stretch. Where your point landed.
HedgeA small tick under the line. A word like kind of, or I guess.

How the line becomes coaching

While Sayforth is listening

Recording a take

Today’s question

Tell me about a time you changed someone’s mind.

Target zone, 45 to 75 seconds
0:52 spoken

The room dims. Your line begins at the left edge.

It extends while you speak and stops while you are silent, so you learn what a pause looks like while you are taking one. There is no big clock, because the goal is to speak clearly, not to beat one.

Coaching

Read in five seconds. One change, not a report.

  • What happened

    You rushed your opening.

One observation, shown on your own line, with the moment ready to play back.

  • Your focus

Your point arrived after you had already explained it.

One short sentence. Never a wall of numbers.

  • Tomorrow

Say your point first. Then give one reason.

The one instruction you carry into the next day.

  • Try this

Answer in one sentence: what should they remember?

A 30-second drill, if you want it now.

Day 30

Hear the difference.

On Day 30 you answer the Day 1 question again. Then you hear both, read both, and see both on one shared axis.

Day 1
58 seconds
Day 30
41 seconds

The later answer is 17 seconds shorter, the heavy stretch moved to the front, and there are fewer hedge ticks under it.

Day 1

Well, I guess I would say I have kind of been in product for six years, and I started out doing support, and… I help teams decide faster.

Day 30

I help teams decide faster. Six years in product. Here is one example from last quarter.

Underlined is the main point in each take.

Pace172to154 wpm
Long pauses1to5
Hedges per 100 words9to3

An illustrative example, not a promise. Observations, never grades. When a number has not really moved, Sayforth says it is about the same.

Private by design

Your recordings stay on your iPhone. We never upload your audio. Only the text of what you said is sent for coaching.
